Assignment1:
Subject: Technology Class: 02
Topic: Inside CPU cabinet
This was the class of general awareness of technology. A CPU(opened) cabinet was displayed in front of the them. Some students who had seen it at home identified some components. We teachers started labelling and explaining what and how each and every component worked. There is one element called BUS in CPU cabinet, when we just said that it was BUS students immediately referred to the school BUS. We then questioned them as to what did the school BUS do. "It picked us from home and dropped us in school, from school back again to home"-That's right, what do you think the BUS in CPU cabinet do. The students came up with an answer "information". Now they had to tell us from where was the information taken and where was it dropped. Here we had to explain them about the nervous system referring to CPU as central location and both input/output and storage devices as the different end points.
This lesson which used the school BUS has helped kids understand the purpose of the CPU BUS. I realized that little context has made learning easy.

Anitha, an interesting incident and yes, it makes sense to a child when the context for the situation is built into the learning. In fact most of us only make meaning when we can build the context. This is termed situational learning. The kind of context we are talking about is the context of your practice. Which grade were you teaching, what was the student composition like, what were the resources you had available to you, what was the school curriculum influenced by that it expected you to teach about the bus within the computer? All that we discussed on Day One of the PPSE. That is different from Situational Learning which involves building the context of what you are teaching. Not that this is not important. The focus of the module is different and the reflection should be on what contextual factors affect the content you teach.
